Tracy St Claire

MLA Candidate
Penticton-Summerland-Naramata

My roots in this community run deep. I was raised here, and my parents grew up here. My husband Dave and I have had the privilege of raising our two daughters in the same place we call home.

Throughout my life, I’ve been committed to getting things done. I bring experience from various fields, including healthcare, addictions, education, not-for-profit service delivery, and Indigenous relations.

I’m running for office because I’m deeply concerned about the NDP government's top-down, one-size-fits all approaches that have hastened the economic and healthcare crises we are experiencing. And we've proven in Penticton, Summerland and Naramata that by working together we can find solutions that deliver the results on the ground.

As a trained mediator and experienced negotiator, I’m well-prepared to represent our communities in Victoria.

Take a Stand on Garnet Valley Gravel Pit

St. Claire called on all MLA candidates to declare support for her practical plan to cancel the Garnet Valley mine permit, regardless of who is elected MLA, by:

  • Tabling a Private Member's Bill within 90 days of being sworn in to cancel the project's permit

  • Changing the law so that to require the Ministry to offer local governments the option to hold public consultations for similar permits within their boundaries

St. Claire also pledged to present a petition in the Legislative Assembly within 90 days of taking office to demonstrate community support for canceling the project and for these legislative changes.

PETITION

To the Honourable the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, in Legislature Assembled:

The petition of the undersigned, residents of the Penticton-Summerland electoral district, states that:

Whereas the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation has approved a permit for a new gravel pit mine at 27410 Garnet Valley Road in Summerland, which is situated within the municipal boundaries of the District of Summerland and directly abuts RDOS Electoral Area "F" to the west and south; and

Whereas the District of Summerland and other organizations and residents in the South Okanagan directly impacted by this decision have voiced concerns about the associated impacts of the gravel pit mine on the environment, agriculture, recreational trails, and road networks;

Your petitioners respectfully request that the Honourable House:

  1. Cancel the permit for the gravel pit mine at 27410 Garnet Valley Road in Summerland; and

  2. Empower affected local governments to host their own meaningful public consultations as part of the regulatory framework for any future gravel pit or mine approvals within their municipal boundaries should they be interested.
